According to the recently released Cencus 2006 figures, the population of Sligo Town has dropped over the last four years by a total of 3.1 per cent, from 18,473 in 2002 to 17,894 in 2006

However the population of County Sligo rose by 4.6 per cent in the same period, up from 58,200 in 2002 to 60,863 in 2006.
